Special Education

What is Special Education?

Special Education is instruction designed to meet the unique learning needs of the individual student with disabilities from 3-22 years of age. It is defined as:
  • Specially Designed Instruction
  • At no cost to the parents
  • To meet the unique needs of a child with a disability

Do you suspect that a child may have a disability?  We are here to help!

If you suspect that a child may have a disability and may require special education services, please speak with your child's school principal, the school psychologist at your child's school, or contact the Special Education Department at (951) 571-7500.  For concerns about children who are infants through age 4, please contact Rainbow Springs Preschool at (951) 571-4710.

A referral may be made by a parent or by any person concerned about a child.  Parent involvement and agreement is obtained prior to any further action.  Information is confidential and the privacy of children and parents is protected.

MVUSD SELPA works to ensure that all individuals with exceptional needs from birth through age 21 are correctly identified, assessed, and provided a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). We are committed to ensuring programs and services are designed to meet their unique needs in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Community Advisory Committee

The Special Education Community Advisory Committee (CAC) welcomes all parents, families, and community members with an interest in Special Education.  Our purpose is to provide education and support to parents and guardians, encourage community acceptance of students with special needs, improve communication, and to make available to individuals with disabilities and their parents or guardians, a forum where they may express the general needs of educational programs for students with disabilities.
